Congratulations to Our Chairman A visit to Buckingham Palace Jackie Barclay, a Goose Valley resident, is the Honorary British Consul for the Eastern Cape including the area along the Garden Route; his work involves assisting British nationals in distress in the region, both visitors and permanent people.

In recognition of his work, a MBE (Most Excellent Member of the British Empire) was awarded to him by Her Majesty the Queen in her annual Honours List and he was invited to accept this award from Buckingham Palace in London.

Jackie and his wife Ruth decided that this was not an occasion to be missed, and made the trip to the palace to attend an investiture on 11th March 2016 to collect the prestigious commission (he was one of about 69 people who received awards on this day). “Buckingham Palace is special. People stand outside the palace, staring at the entrances to the palace in the hopes of a glimpse of royalty; curious onlookers approached us as

we made our way to the front gates, questioning us as to why we were “going to the palace”, and we were made to feel rather “royal” as they congratulated Jackie on his award. Inside the palace was all the pomp and glory that one views on TV and we were treated to lush carpeting, beautiful artwork, all in all a true palatial environment which included a 12-piece string orchestra playing wonderful music during the event.

One of the curiosities was the Ladies Cloakrooms, where some of the older toilets were very similar to posh “long-drop” toilets! Palace staff are so friendly and helpful, made one feel at ease at all times. Jackie and the other recipients were guided as to where to stand, what to say and all the protocols that they needed to adhere to.

We (wife and two daughters) were treated to great seats where the ceremony and all it involved could be well viewed, and we very proudly watched as Jackie received his award from Prince William – we did share a tear or two!

Afterwards we treated ourselves to lunch at the Ritz! Well, to be honest it was the pub across the road from the Ritz! The trip to Buckingham Palace was a truly wonderful experience, and receiving recognition from the Queen in this way certainly ranks as an all-time high.”

Electrical Outages

I am sure all our permanent residents are so tired of the power outages we have had, we have good news!!

The Bitou Municipality will be installing new underground power supply to the area from Old Nick up to Keurbooms as this is the problem area causing the power outages. Once the underground cable is in full function, the overhead line will be removed. We don’t

We do not have a confirmed date for the excavations to start, but it has been estimated for the end of July 2016.

DECLARATION OF MORATORIUM ON EXTENSIONS OF SECTIONS

As explained in our previous letter, Section 24 of the Sectional Titles Act states that an owner may not extend the floor area or boundaries of his section without being authorized thereto by special resolution passed by the members of the body corporate.

The current moratorium on extensions was established in order to authorise and register all existing extensions and to ensure that owners obtain the proper consent going forward when they wish to extend their sections.

The Goose Valley management staff has conducted an inspection of all sections situated on the Estate and they have listed the section that have been extended, these extensions have not been approved by the members of the body corporate.

As a result thereof a draft sectional plan of these extension has to be prepared and approved by way of a special resolution at a general meeting of owners, where after the sectional plan has to be registered in the Cape Town Deeds Registry to reflect the actual extent of your section.

A land surveyor has been appointed to draw the sectional plans for approval by the Surveyor General prior to registration thereof in the Cape Town Deeds Registry. The Goose Valley Home Owners Association is calling a Special General Meeting to be held on 9 July 2016, for purposes of approving all the extensions to sections. We thank you for your understanding and patience during this process.

Greetings from your 2016 Goose Valley Golf Committee

2016 is midway and the Goose Valley Golf Club committee of Robert Wiggett (Captain), Ruth Hein (Ladies Captain) and Ruth Barclay (Vice-Captain) are keen to make 2016 a year of better contact, not only with our club members, but also between the much loved Garden Route courses in our beautiful part of the country. The course went through a very busy time but virtually all our swallows have left us now and our course has recovered from the high traffic and is looking stunning again – all ready for some good golf!

Some of the events held in the first part of this year included:

  • The Captains Drive was held in January, it was well supported with the main aim of the day for members to meet the 2016 golf committee
  • The popular “North vs South” competition was held in February … with the winners being South!
  •  A mixed Valentine’s Day competition was held on Sunday 14th Feb
  • A Knock-out competition for men and women took place (Robert Wiggett won the Men’s KO and the team of Ann Riemer/Martie Jelliman won the Ladies)
  • Our annual Club Championships were held over the Easter weekend in March with Jonty Sacks (Mens) and Erika Taljaard (Ladies) being our 2016 champs.

The Goose Valley Women @ Home Day took place end May, a most enjoyable and successful day. The first Inter-Estate Challenge between 7 of the Garden Route estate courses started up on Sunday 29th May, where the GV team represented their estate in rather misty conditions!

Vision & Values

The committee has developed a vision and a set of values for the club which will their decisions and behaviour. We encourage our members to also abide by these values and to respect each player’s right to enjoy his or her game and experience at Goose Valley.

The values that we feel important are:

Communication: Promote good communications with all members and interested golfers with relevant and up to date information relating to Golf at Goose Valley.

Respect: Observe the individuals’ rights to enjoy the experience of playing golf at Goose Valley.

Teamwork: Create a conducive working environment with all stake-holders to achieve the vision.

Community Spirit: Support local organisations in fund raising drives to assist worthy causes.

Responsibility: Take responsibility to assist in the growth of golf in the Plettenberg Bay and surrounding areas.

In closing, your committee continues to address golfing matters as and when we are aware of them, so continue to “shout” if you need assistance on a golfing matter. We want your golfing experience to be a great one, and to this end our email boxes are always open to your comments; we can’t solve all the problems but if we don’t know about them, we can’t do anything!

Maintenance of Pipework within a Section

  1. Please note that the maintenance of a section is the sole responsibility of the owner. A section extends from the centre line (median line) of the walls, floors and ceilings, this area is the property of the owner and as a result, the owner of the section has the sole responsibility for the maintenance and repair of the section, including any investigations for leaks, etc.
  2. All disputes and/or investigations relating to sections are strictly between the owners in question and the Goose Valley HOA, including the Estate Manager and support staff, has no right or responsibility to intervene.
  3. Therefore any investigations into the alleged leak will have to be arranged and carried out by the owners in question.
  4. Please note that if the damage results in an insurance claim then the Goose Valley HOA must be informed in order for a claim to be submitted to the HOA insurance on your behalf. For a claim to be submitted, the Goose Valley HOA requires a report from the plumber/contractor and photos of the problem area.
  5. We also request that Goose Valley be copied into correspondence between the affected homeowners to keep on record.

Trimming of Bushes

At the Annual General Meeting in December 2015 the trimming of bushes was discussed and it was agreed to trim to a height of 2m (see minute below).

At the Annual General Meeting in December 2015 the trimming of bushes was discussed and it was agreed to trim to a height of 2m (see minute below).

As suggested we engaged with an expert to assist with the cutting of the trees in the correct manner. After his visit we received a letter from the Department of Agriculture, Forestry & Fisheries requesting an explanation with regard to trees and thicket that had been trimmed.

We were informed that no further trimming was to take place until further investigation or we would be prosecuted.

After several visits from D.A.F.F we have applied for a permit to cut/trim the thicket in certain areas on the Estate and are waiting for their approval.

Any Eco sensitive area on the Estate that was existing or that we have created cannot be destroyed/removed without a licence.

Security Overview

Good Day,

My name is Wesley Andrew.

I find the Bitou area to be the most beautiful place in South Africa. Since I moved to Plettenberg Bay I have been involved in security from being a member of the PBCPA (Plettenberg Bay Crime Prevention Association) to heading up the PLETT.WATCH response team which was established in 2014.

The crime stats in Plettenberg Bay and surroundings areas have been on the rise but I can assure that I will do everything I can to keep our Estate 100% crime free. The success of our estate security plan depends to a great extent on controlling access via our main gate. We have developed security protocols for your staff and contractors that are easy to follow and help them implement it effectively; please understand why we insist on them.

We also have high-tech surveillance equipment in the form of motion sensor cameras, infrared, CCTV playback, boom gates and an integrated system which will keep watch over you and your belongings. Whether in the open or hidden, all our systems will be routed through to a central location for human or automated monitoring. I am glad to say that we have the full support and backup of the PBCPA and Plett.Watch Response groups if ever we need it.

I will try my utmost best to keep you and your families safe and happy.

Kind regards, Please welcome the Goose Valley Security officers (some you will recognise along with the new faces)
